John Wesley was an Anglican cleric and Christian theologian who founded the Arminian Methodist movement. The Wesley Methodist Movement began when Wesley took over open-air preaching started by George Whitefield.  In contrast to George Whitefield's Calvinistic Methodism, which preached a doctrine of pre-destination, Wesley believed that each person could be saved by faith in God. Methodism in both forms was a highly successful evangelical movement in the United Kingdom, which encouraged congregants to experience Christ personally.

His notes on each book of the bible are an excellent basis for study.

A younger brother of John Wesley, Charles was a prolific hymn writer, composing over 5500 hymns and writing the words for over 2000 more.  These include Hark the herald angels sing and Christ the Lord is Risen Today.
